Mercy Day was a day I’ve heard about from Gwynedd girls every year since sixth grade. I constantly heard that Mercy Day was “the best day of the year” and “a day full of fun.” This is typically what every school says about their spirit week. I didn’t understand what the Gwynedd girls truly meant until Mercy Day of my Freshman year.
The full experience started on the night before Mercy Day… Mercy Fun Night! The Class of 2028 gathered at school along with their PAL groups and prepared for the next day. We decorated our iconic red and gold tie dye shirts, played Just Dance and bonded with our classmates. It was hard to believe we only met each other that month. After a few hours of festivities, the bonding experience was still not over. The girls had sleepovers with their friends and the Mercy Spirit continued through the night!
The next morning, we got ready for the big day with our friends. Everyone got into their Mercy Spirit by wearing colorful ribbons and stylish braids and, of course, dressing in red and gold from head to toe! The day consisted of entertaining senior performances, fun games in the gym and PAC, a kickball tournament and, of course, tug of war! The seniors ended up defeating the Gwynedd faculty members! All throughout the day students were chanting their way through the hallway and proudly representing their class.
Before I knew it, the day was already over. I had so much fun that I didn’t realize how exhausted I was! I would love to relive the special moments of my first Mercy Day. Everything felt extra exciting since It was all new to me. I think it’s so important that Gwynedd celebrates Mercy Day by incorporating the value of friendship and sisterhood.
