Recently, Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School’s Model UN students participated in the Global Economic Forum, an engaging and thought-provoking event hosted by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. Held on Drexel University’s campus, the forum brought together students from across Pennsylvania for a full day of collaboration, discussion, and global problem-solving.
The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the region’s largest and longest-running international nonprofit, has been fostering global awareness and diplomacy for over 75 years. Through its programs, the organization connects Philadelphia students with global leaders and ideas, encouraging dialogue, understanding, and cooperation on an international scale. The Global Economic Forum is one of its standout youth initiatives, offering students the opportunity to step into the roles of decision-makers and tackle real-world economic challenges.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Drexel’s campus, the event created an immersive and energetic environment. Students moved between sessions, engaged in lively debate, and refined their proposals as the day progressed. The experience highlighted the importance of diplomacy and open-mindedness in addressing global challenges.
A special congratulations goes to the “Food as Medicine” group, which was recognized as an Outstanding Delegation for their exceptional work. Their ability to present innovative ideas, collaborate effectively, and develop a strong, well-rounded solution set them apart during the forum.
Overall, the Global Economic Forum was an inspiring experience for all who attended. It not only deepened students’ understanding of global issues but also reinforced the importance of communication, cooperation, and leadership. Events like this continue to empower young people to become informed, engaged global citizens—ready to make a difference both locally and worldwide.
