Each spring at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School, the community gathers to celebrate one of the most cherished traditions in our faith: the May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year, students, faculty, and staff filled the chapel in their Red Day formal attire, creating a setting of unity and reverence for the annual May Liturgy and Crowning. The honor of crowning Mary was given to Lucie Van Hoof ’26, who approached the statue of Our Lady accompanied by her mother. With quiet reverence, she placed a delicate crown of flowers upon Mary, a gesture that reflected the school community’s deep love for the Mother of God and its commitment to her example of steadfast faith. Adding to the beauty of the morning, Jenna Leary ’26 offered a breathtaking rendition of Ave Maria. Her voice filled the chapel with emotion, giving musical expression to the devotion at the heart of the ceremony and elevating the experience for everyone gathered. For the Class of 2026, the ceremony carried special weight. It marked their final May Crowning as Gwynedd students, a milestone made visible as seniors processed in wearing their white graduation robes. The liturgy, followed by the crowning ceremony in the chapel, radiated a sense of peace and shared devotion that has long defined this tradition. For Gwynedd, May Crowning is far more than a ritual. It is a living expression of our Mercy identity. Honoring Mary—who embodies compassion, courage, and grace—reminds us of our calling to lead lives rooted in service and faith. The presence of students from every grade level highlighted the strength of our community, united by traditions that have shaped generations of Gwynedd women. In a world that often rushes forward, May Crowning invites us to pause, honor the sacred, and draw inspiration from Mary’s enduring light. As we carry the memory of this year’s ceremony beyond Gwynedd’s halls, we do so with gratitude, renewed faith, and the guiding spirit of the Mercy tradition.
