Spirit Week was an amazing way to come back from spring break! Monday kicked everything off with a double theme of Athletes vs. Mathletes and Anything But a Backpack Day. Outfits ranged from Philly sports jerseys to modified school uniforms, with people bringing ties and glasses to add to the effect. Students also brought some crazy substitutes for backpacks, including chairs, laundry baskets, Easter baskets, shopping carts, and other large items. There was also super fun music in the hallways during passing periods to match the themes and lift the mood.
Tuesday continued the great momentum. Each grade was assigned a different generation, and it was interesting to see all the different interpretations of generational styles. During lunch and WIN, a Kona Ice truck was available for students to enjoy. The warm weather made this treat an awesome addition to the week, allowing students to cool off and socialize in the middle of the school day.
Wednesday’s theme was Rhyme Without Reason. Mrs. Talley, a math and science teacher at Gwynedd, said, “I’d have to say my favorite pair was characters from Glee, Sue and Schu, especially because they were acting in character!” In addition, there was a day-long roshambo competition with a finale on Friday. The finalists—one from each grade—competed on the PAC stage, and this year’s winner was a senior!
Thursday was Meme Day, and everyone showed up dressed as their favorite pop culture moments. Members of Student Council worked very hard to serve acai bowls to the entire school. The line stretched around the entire perimeter of the Commons!
Friday was the cherry on top of an awesome Spirit Week. The theme was monochrome outfits with matching wigs, and the Gwynedd girls delivered! During Community Period, we had our annual talent show, which had the entire student body laughing and singing along. Some memorable acts included Mr. Fromhold’s performance as King George III, the juniors’ production of Zombies, and the senior class closing the show with songs from High School Musical. The last Spirit Week event was the Global Potluck, where Monarchs brought in all kinds of foods and desserts for people to try. Proceeds from the event went toward supporting the Zoë Rogers Scholarship, and the Gwynedd community was more than happy to help out.
Overall, Spirit Week was so much fun and encouraged students to participate and stay motivated during this last stretch of the school year. Student Council did an excellent job planning and executing all of these activities, and the bar is set high for next year!
