On November 13, 14, 15, and 16, Gwynedd students, joined by boys from neighboring schools, performed their rendition of Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls for the Gwynedd’s students, staff, and families. The musical follows the story of Sky Masterson, a high-roller gambler in New York City who is pulled into a bet that he can’t take a girl of another guy’s choosing on a date. The girl he ends up with is Sarah Brown, a serious and dedicated missionary who wants nothing to do with him. Meanwhile, Nathan Detroit scrambles to keep his illegal craps games going while dodging any real commitment to his long-term fiancé, Miss Adelaide. The Performing Arts Program brought this beloved story to life through intricate sets, creative costumes, and exceptional talent. The cast and crew have been working tirelessly since August to deliver a phenomenal performance full of humor, emotion, and heart.
Lucie Van Hoof ‘26 and Mary Anspach ‘26 portrayed the earnest and strong-willed mission worker, Sarah Brown, capturing her devotion to saving souls until Sky’s arrival challenges her discipline and heart. Cecelia Kent ‘27 and Lucy Thiel ‘28 starred as Miss Adelaide, bringing her dramatic flair, quick wit, and unwavering hope of marrying Nathan after fourteen years of engagement. Emily Bogle ‘26 brought energy to the stage, as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, delivering cheerful humor and perfect timing as the optimistic gambler who lifts everyone’s spirits. Peyton Sullivan ‘26 took on the role of Benny Southstreet, Nathan’s close friend whose street-smart charm always had him ready with quick advice and clever schemes. Many other students enhanced the performance through their roles as Hot Box Girls, Gamblers, and the countless other characters who filled the stage with passion and personality.
Once again, the GMAHS Performing Arts Program has outdone itself! Thank you to our cast, stage crew, pit orchestra, staff, and lights and sounds team for making this production possible. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, Guys and Dolls was an enormous success.
