Pandemic Safety Tips

Elizabeth Gomez

Our society’s and country’s lives, locally and nationally, have completely altered due to a worldwide, contagious, and deadly pandemic: COVID-19. Normalcy seems distant and unattainable, considering that everywhere we go, Coronavirus’ effects have disrupted what we saw as routine. For instance, instead of going to school daily, much of our country’s teachers and students remain in their homes, experiencing a virtual and somewhat detached education. Rarely do they see their friends; seldom do they participate in their communities. Gwynedd, however, strived to be apart from this trend. They saw the isolation and confinement that comes with virtual school and wanted to provide the members of the high school with a more interactive, intimate education: a hybrid system. With this approach, Gwynedd Mercy’s faculty and students can come into school, collaborate, and participate in different service events while keeping others safe. This incredible opportunity, though, depends on our community’s actions and habits. So, the question is, “How do we keep each other safe and healthy?” Well, here are Five Safety Tips that can help Gwynedd’s doors remain open to us:

1. Always wear a mask when you are away from your home or you are around others!

2. Wash your hands often! If water and soap are not available, then use some hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

3. Avoid close contact with people by making sure there are six feet between you and them!

4. When you feel the need to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth or nose!

5. If you are exposed to an individual who has tested positively for COVID-19, then isolate yourself for fourteen days, ensuring the safety of yourself and others!
