On February 8, Gwynedd Mercy Academy hosted a service and leadership event for the students of GMAHS and LaSalle College High School. The day was filled with many fun, useful activities that promoted leadership skills, teamwork, and personal growth. The students were randomly assigned to groups. This encouraged them to engage with people they did not know prior to the event. The day started with a service activity. The students assembled care packages for members of the military while participating in some icebreaker questions. This was followed by a game of four corners. This helped the students acknowledge what factors (academic, leadership, social, and future goals) have contributed most to their personal growth. Next, the students participated in a team-building relay where every team had to work together to accomplish their tasks efficiently and effectively. After that, the students enjoyed lunch and had the opportunity to get to know each other better. After lunch, all the students participated in speed interviewing. The students continuously rotated seats and engaged in quick conversations with other students they had not met before. This encouraged communication and listening. To wrap up the event, each group was assigned a product and had to find a way to advertise it. This required creative thinking and teamwork. Overall, the event was a huge success. It pushed students out of their comfort zones, strengthened leadership skills, and created connections between the students.
