Yesterday evening, the first-ever Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School Reading Olympics team participated in the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit’s high school Reading Olympics competition. The team of 12 students had been preparing diligently over the year, completing a total of 25 books from the list published by the county each year. The participants would need to recall specific details and contents from the books to answer questions during the three rounds they competed in, and the team ended up with a total of 47 points (winning all of their rounds), which awarded them the highest accolade: the blue ribbon! Sophomore president Madeline White says, “Our first year of running Reading Olympics at Gwynedd has been spectacular, and all of our team members have grown tremendously throughout the year. It was amazing to see our hard work pay off as we worked as a team to earn the blue ribbon!” The club has an exciting future ahead, and they plan on ending the school year with a fun, well-deserved Book Swap, and cannot wait to compete again next year!
