Congratulations to freshman Mary Pellegrino, who recently won an environmental action recognition award from the Lower Gwynedd Township Environmental Board! Passionate about the earth, Mary has been beekeeping with her mother, a beekeeper, while taking care of 3 different hives. She describes that it is a big task with lots of activity during the summertime, as the season of a honey production comes along. During the winter, the job mainly involves maintenance: feeding the bees, building a windbreaker, and wrapping the hive. Due to her hard work, Mary was nominated for the award recognizing sustainable action, interviewed, and then received the amazing news in her mail! It was very well deserved, and Mary also continues to practice environmentally friendly activities such as composting, using food scraps to replant a pollinator garden for the bees, and planting a vegetable garden!
