On Wednesday, February 7, Gwynedd had its annual all-school assembly in celebration of Title IX. Annie Dever ’26 made an outstanding video, which educated Gwynedd students on women’s history, rights, and education. The video also highlighted GMA’s 2024 college recruits. Seniors, Maddie Bogle and Kat Pluck gave a quick crash course on how Title IX helps women’s education, sports, and the arts. Next, Gwynedd welcomed Peg Pennepacker, a lifelong educator, athlete, and athletic director from Upper Perkiomen Area School District. Ms. Pennepacker shared significant information, including a biography of Dr. Bernice Sandler, women rights advocate and the “Godmother of Title IX.” Ms. Pennepacker also shared her inspiring personal story and journey of being a female athlete in both high school and college. This presentation not only educated Gwynedd students on the importance of Title IX but also in a way passed the baton from Ms. Pennepacker to a new generation, GMA students, to continue to further women’s rights. Special thanks to the students and faculty involved in LEAD who planned the event and for Ms. Pennepacker for her insightful presentation! GMA students are forever grateful for Title IX and will continue to work towards reaching their own goals in the classroom, stage or on the field.
