On Thursday, October 5, students, faculty, staff, alums, and other members of the Gwynedd community all gathered to celebrate. Those who were regulars at field hockey games, and those who had never been to one, gathered for one great, common purpose: the celebration of the late Zoë Rogers.
Walking into the game, one was greeted by the smiling faces of the DEIJ Council, selling t-shirts, stickers, pins, while giving out free bracelets, keychains, and ribbons. Every single one was honoring Zoë, mental health, and suicide prevention. A beautiful banner with Zoë’s accomplishments as captain of the field hockey team, co-president of diversity club, and other pictures hung on the side of the turf. There were also paper butterflies that people could write a message on and put in a box with Zoë’s picture that was later given to her family.
Before the game had begun, Gwynedd and Merion along with spectators of the game came together in group prayer. An emotional yet wholesome moment, the Mercy community had felt ever so strong. Music played as the exciting game ensued. In between breaks, alums and staff shared amazing memories of Zoë, touching the hearts of all. Gwynedd ultimately took victory over Merion, winning 7-1. This game was incredibly special to the entire Mercy community and was a memorable day for everyone who attended.
