GMA Basketball Defeats an AACA Rival on Senior Night

The Monarchs’ basketball season has been hugely successful so far, and on Tuesday, January 24th, they earned a great win against a traditionally tough opponent. Last year, Villa Joseph Marie seemed to be the only AACA school that could compete with Gwynedd during their undefeated regular season run (Gwynedd won three tight matchups, including one in the AACA final). This year though, the Gwynedd basketball team seemed determined to dominate. On the 24th, Gwynedd defeated Villa 48-21. This win was made extra special by the fact that it came on Senior Night.

Gwynedd’s three seniors all started the game and contributed to the win. These three athletes – Mary Kate Donohue, Hannah Griffin (Holy Cross Basketball ’27), and Morgan Newell – were also honored before the game, along with senior manager Brigid Scanlon. The night was designed to celebrate all they have contributed to the GMAHS basketball program over their years here. There was no better way to honor these players than with a well-deserved victory.

The Monarchs are currently ranked 2nd in the AACA and 4th in the district. The next game for Gwynedd Basketball is coming up against on January 26th, which is a matchup against Mount St. Joseph. Gwynedd is looking to extend their win streak and defeat another AACA rival. The basketball team seems poised to make a deep playoff run again this year.
